Prebiotics

Prebiotic is a non-viable food component that confers to the host an health benefit associated to microflora modulation (FAO Technical Meeting Report, 2007).
AAT can support your company to evaluate or quantify tested prebiotics on faecal bacteria growth, particularly on beneficial or potentially beneficial populations, and/or modifying microflora composition.

In vitro studies

  • Prebiotic characterization (chemical composition and structure)
  • Testing for prebiotic effects with faecal batch fermentation
  • In vitro evaluation of prebiotic effects on human faecal microbiota by plate counting
  • In vitro evaluation of prebiotic activity on human faecal microbiota by Real-time PCR
  • In vitro study of prebiotic effects on intestinal microbiota using Denaturing Gradient Gel Electrophoresis (DGGE)
  • Short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) analysis in batch fermentation

In vivo studies

  • Analytical support to human clinical trials to determine prebiotic effectiveness
